Downsizing to a smaller property

When moving, there are times when you will need to move to a smaller property due to a change in your circumstances. Downsizing can be a daunting process because many decisions need to be made about what to take with you and how much of your furniture you will need.

One way to decide what furniture to take with you is to measure the size of the rooms in your new smaller property and map out each one so that you can see what will fit. You should also measure the doorframes to make sure that you will be able to get your furniture into your new home. You may need to disassemble some of your furniture in order to make it easier to relocate. By mapping out the areas in your new home you can see if your furniture is suitable for it. For example, your existing dining table may be suitable for your old house but it may be too big or the wrong shape for your new dining room or kitchen. Another way to help you decide what to take with you is to make a list of the essential items such as your bed. These items will be necessary to take with you. Then consider each unessential item and decide whether you will need it in the new house. For example, if there is a large amount of storage in your new home you will not need to take as extra storage units such as cupboards and chests of drawers with you.

Lastly, you should take this time to clear out any items in your home that you no longer want. This will save you from having any clutter around in your new home.
