Our vans are
Carbon Balanced

AnyVan makes the most of existing journeys to use as little fuel as possible, but while we massively reduce our carbon footprint through route matching, our vans still produce CO2, just like the others.

Our ambition is for AnyVan to be the greenest way to move on the planet, so we’ve teamed up with World Land Trust to balance all the CO2 our vans produce, by protecting and restoring threatened tropical forests each and every time we move.

Moving to Kent

Commonly known as 'The Garden of England', Kent is the most populated non-metropolitan county in England and is one of the Home Counties. Could it also be about to become your new home? If you're moving to Kent, there's a wide variety of places to live.

As the nickname suggests, a large part of the county is green space, with a high amount of hops and fruit grown in the region. In fact, an estimated 28% of Kent makes up two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Downs and The High Weald.

But it isn't just a remote, peaceful part of England. With strong transport connections, there's a lot on offer.

What can I do in Kent?

Home to arguably the most famous natural landmark in the UK, the White Cliffs of Dover, there's an abundance of exploration to be done in the outdoors! There are many beaches and seafronts to take advantage of, whilst the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty can also offer much-needed breaks from the rigours of day to day life.

History is intertwined with Kent too. Julius Ceasar once wrote that Kent residents were "by far the most civilised inhabitants of Britain". And, with 30 castles spread across the area and the oldest cathedral in England, those with a passion for history can step back in time across Kent. Did you know? Much of the Battle of Britain took place over the skies of Kent - why not visit the museum to learn more?

Do you need to be near the sea? You've come to the right place! With resorts such as Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate on the East coast, you can soak up the feel of British seaside towns and taste fresh seafood. A notable mention should be extended to Whitstable, as it features an annual oyster festival that is guaranteed to draw big crowds.

From a sporting perspective, Kent County Cricket Club are arguably the most well-known organisation in the area. The Brands Hatch motor racing circuit in West Kingsdown has played host to the British Grand Prix on 12 occasions, and the Paralympics in 2012, whilst Gillingham FC are the most prominent football club.

What Are The Average Property Prices In Kent?

Generally speaking, and due to the high income of residents, property prices in Kent are amongst the highest for UK regions. Properties in 2021 sold for an average price of £413,659. Whilst this may seem a little higher than other areas, it's already 6% up on the previous year, according to Rightmove.

On average, semi-detached properties sell for £412,067, whilst terraced properties sell for £348,143. Are you at a stage in your life where you don't want neighbours? Detached properties sold for an average of £632,137.

Maidstone or Ashford?

What is there to do in Maidstone?

Maidstone is the largest town in Kent with the River Medway running through the centre of the town. Being such a large town means there is plenty to do for everyone; visiting Leeds Castle, Kent Life’s Heritage Farm Park, Mote Park Watersports Park and many more!

If you’re looking for ways to spend your weekends outdoors in Maidstone, there’s the option to try one of the many vineyards locally, take a walk or cycle in Cobtree Manor Park or take in the sights of Thurnham Castle.

If the weather isn’t on your side, as we often expect living in the UK, then you’re still spoilt for choice of things to do. Why not partake in a tour and tasting at The Maidstone Distillery? You could even try your hand at contemporary pottery painting at This Art of Mine or catch a show at The Hazlitt Theatre.

What is it like to live in Ashford?

Ashford is an ideal spot to relocate to if you’re planning on commuting to London for work, but not only that, you’ve got connections to Brussels and Paris with the Eurostar.

If you’re looking for the ultimate deals on clothing, homewares are everything in between then the Ashford Designer Outlet is on your doorstep. Being immersed in history is another option that’s also on your doorstep, you can visit the likes of Godinton House & Gardens, the Ashford Borough Museum and the High Halden War Memorial.

Ashford is also a hub for breweries and vineyards such as the newly built Curious Brewery which will give you an insight into how they brew their lagers and ales, plus taste them too. There are a couple of vineyards that are well worth spending time at such as Gusbourne and Warehorne.

Should we Move to Dartford, Thanet or Folkestone?

Kent is broken up into 13 districts, each with its own draws and appeals. But, with so much choice, how do you know where's best suited to you?

Large areas of Kent fall within London's commuter belt, meaning commute times can play a massive part in their decision.

Dartford dates back to medieval times but has developed into an incredibly well-connected part of Kent. Dartford residents now benefit from consistent trains into London throughout the day, turning it into a commuter hotspot.

Lying within the area often known as the London Basin, Dartford boasts its own Central Park and strong facilities for the arts, including The Orchard Theatre and The Mick Jagger Centre. But, if you're more into history than green spaces, why not check out Henry VIII's Royal Manor?

If you like to be beside the seaside, you're in the right place. Thanet is home to three notable seaside towns - Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs. With redevelopment underway across the area, high-speed trains connect it to London, but for those looking for a quieter life, you may be more inclined to spend your time by the sea.

Thanet is also home to the biggest Primark in Kent and Thanet Earth, the largest greenhouse complex in the UK.

What about Folkestone? As with most of Kent, there is much to see and do in Folkestone, meaning it's a fantastic place to call home. Notable sights in the port town include The Leas, The Kent Downs, a pair of Battle of Britain landmarks and, of course, the Folkestone White Horse.

London is a little under an hour away by train, and with the Eurotunnel passing through, you can drive aboard and be in Calais in just 35 minutes. How's that for well-connected?

Working in Kent

What is it like Working in Kent?

As regions go, Kent's economy is an incredibly diverse one. The area can count on agriculture, haulage, logistics and tourism amongst the main sources of income. The average salary is £27,000 a year, however, thanks to the geographical location and connections, many residents travel into London or Europe for work.

Due to the conditions and climate, Kent is home to many hop gardens. As such, numerous breweries have made the county their home, with Britain's oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame Brewery, operating out of Faversham since 1698.

Equally, well-known organisations are based in Kent, including Direct Line, Hornby Railways and Laing O'Rourke.
