Here are a few do's and don'ts when it comes to moving house.
Do - Wrap most of your items in bubble wrap to protect them from becoming scratched or broken.
Do - Label each box with a quick description of the contents and the room in which the box belongs. This will save time when you unpacking.
Do - Pack items by room so that they end up in the right place when they get delivered.
Do - Clearly label fragile items so that they are handled carefully.
Do - Pack plates vertically to make them structurally stronger and less likely to smash when in transit.
Do - Tape an 'X' across any mirrors and picture glass before covering them tightly with bubble wrap and marking as 'fragile'.
Do - Keep a spare box to hand to pack up all those last essential bits and bobs that you’ll need on your moving day.
Do - Hire a trustworthy removals company to take care of your move and do ask them for any advice.
Don't - Leave any sharp points or edges jutting out of your boxes as this is a safety hazard.
Don't - Overload boxes as heavy boxes are awkward to move and can cause back strain.
Don't - Forget about your pets. Pets often find moving very stressful, so it can be a good idea to leave them with a trusted friend or family member during your move. This will also make sure that pets do not cause accidents such as by tripping people up.
Don’t - Leave everything to the last minute. This only makes things more stressful for you in the long run.
